We perpetuate our own suffering when we focus on:
Outcomes we can’t control, fairness, other people’s behaviour, how things should have been different, what other people think, how other’s perceive us.
Emotion regulation is about teaching your mind to communicate with your brain so your thoughts and behaviours aren’t at the mercy of your primitive survival instincts .
Our brains think negative self-talk is helpful. It believes if the problem is us, that’s easier to fix so it tries to convince us that we are always the problem. This is a misguided effort to give us a sense of control over our world.
We need to teach our brain that sometimes we have no control over bad things happening and that’s ok.
That’s life.
