Destigmatisation beings with you.
Address it when someone says ‘I feel suicidal’, ‘my boss is so bipolar’, ‘I am very OCD about this stuff’ etc. flippantly.
Have a real, honest conversation with your loved ones. Explain how their casual stigma harms people around them. Talk about the pain of being shamed, especially on mental health.
Don’t engage in gossip about mental health distress of others, empathise with it. Go to therapy yourself.
Let’s do this together, gather our voice and act on it. Make a choice to not let the conversation be reduced or dismissed and sustain it.
Note to Self:
Destigmatize mental health by you going to therapy for yourself, not by asking others to.
